Professional Social Media Accounts

Social networking is a key way into promoting myself as professional in make-up artistry due to it being so easily accessible to everyone in which can lead to future progression to employment.

Facebook
https://www.facebook.com/jessicabarbamakeup
Pros:
. Can upload all my portfolio in a good quality.
. Can create numerous albums so images can be separated in suitable sections ie. a fashion shoot, theatre production
. Other people can promote my page by 'sharing' it.
. People can tag me in their posts in which will directly link to my make-up page. Eg photographer can credit me to my linked page

. Cons
. Harder to gain a more wider audience as you can only invite 'friends' in which are mainly not in the make-up or creative industry.

Instagram
https://instagram.com/jessbmakeup/

Pros:
. Many make-up brands and make-up artists have Instagram accounts
. When you follow someone, Instagram suggests similar people to follow in which could make my name appear to a more wider audience
. There is a news feed in which shows what your followers have liked. If a follower has liked one of my Instagram photos it can be again seen to a wider audience
. Hashtags help get your images more easily viewed

Cons:
. Can't zoom in on photos and the framing is small.

With my Instagram I have been posting current project process, make-up shoots/looks and behind-the scenes photos to highlight my make-up profession. It was great to get recognition by Alyn Waterman who has been a make-up artist and designer for 20 years in television in which shows that the use of make-up related hash tags can get yourself recognised.

Twitter
https://twitter.com/jessbmakeup
Pros:
. Hashtags are available in which make your tweets more visable on a particular hashtag feed
. Many make-up companies and artists have twitter accounts
. Can upload large images in good quality

Cons:
. You only have a 140 characters to write

It was really great to get recommendation from make-up artist Julia Townend on a make-up product I wanted to try. With her reply being linked to Daniel Sandler LTD it was proof that social networking can help get even large make-up companies to recognise you.

Bloglovin'
Pros:
. If companies recognise your blog they will send you their products to review
. You can see in feed who your followers are following to create a wider audience.
. Bloggers can like your post to gain more recognition

Cons:
. Very time consuming on each blog post

Last year I began a blog on reviewing make-up products, however although this was enjoyable and did gain some recognition I think it is more targeted at make-up as hobby rather than as a professional market hence why I have decided not to continue with this.

https://uk.pinterest.com/jessbmakeup/
Pros:
. Can upload your own work in which can people pin.
. Make make-up boards in which people can follow
. Each image has a link of where it has come from, could link to my facebook page etc
. People can see your concepts for upcoming shoots

Cons:
Can't gain much of an audience due, as hard to search for people mainly people search for ideas and concepts in search bar.

I think Pinterest is a great tool for creating mood boards of upcoming shoots however to brand myself as a professional I don't think it is as strong as Instagram, Twitter or Facebook due to not many professionals use it to promote themselves rather for just inspiration.
